¡Bienvenid@s a SPAN 2010!
Me llamo Catherine Addington y soy tu profesora de este curso. Soy de Alexandria, Virginia, donde descubrí español por primera vez asistiendo a un colegio principalmente latino en el barrio Chirilagua. Estudiaba español en la secundaria y también en la universidad de Nueva York, donde tuve la oportunidad de estudiar un año en Buenos Aires, Argentina. (¡Por eso hablo un poco así!) Hablo además portugués brasileño, que es muy parecido al español, y estoy estudiando el francés quebequés.
Además de ser tu profesora, soy estudiante graduada en el programa de español, y mis intereses académicos incluyen la mitología, la religión, la cultura popular, y la literatura argentina y brasileña. (Puedes leer más sobre mis intereses académicos en el sitio web del departamento.) Cuando no estoy estudiando, me gusta participar en el teatro, ir al cine, escribir para revistas culturales, y mirar partidos de fútbol. Esto es muy importante: mis equipos favoritos son FC Barcelona de Cataluña, DC United de Washington, DC, y Club Atlético Independiente de Avellaneda, Argentina.

e-Portfolio Guidelines, SPAN 2010
What is an e-portfolio?
A learning e-portfolio is a collection of student work that showcases learning over time. The e-portfolio process generally includes four components:
- collect: the student collects evidence of his/her learning and progress
- select: the student selects those pieces of work that best represent progress or learning in a particular course
- reflect: the student reflects on his/her goals, strengths and weaknesses, learning processes, and/or achievement in a particular work or collection of work
- present: the student presents his/her portfolio to an authentic audience (classmates, instructor, department, employer)
The e-portfolio serves to document progress and development, to highlight learning processes and tools for ongoing development, and/or to showcase a student’s best work. An e-portfolio can be used for personal, academic, or professional purposes.
The Honor Code. SPAN 2010 students are expected to comply with the UVA Honor Code. All work is to be pledged and completed by the student alone without assistance from classmates, advanced Spanish students, native speakers, online translators or any online resource (like GoogleTranslate), unless otherwise indicated by the instructor. Students are permitted to use online dictionaries (Word Reference; rae.es). Tutors may not revise student work. Any violations of the Code in or outside class will be brought to the attention of the Honor Council for appropriate action.
