Proyecto Cultural

You will complete a digital media activity in which you research aspects of Spanish-speaking culture that interest you. Use your Digication page to create a multi-media project that highlights your project. Before beginning your project, please read the the project guidelines (below) and  consult the project rubric (attached). This project is 5% of your Culture Grade for Spanish 1060.

Step 1: Choose a productpractice (festivals, holidays, customs, etc.), or personal experience related to Spanish-speaking cultures. Products are cultural items such as arts and crafts, foods, laws, dress, types of dwellings, and music. Practices are patterns of social interactions such as festivals, customs, holidays, social gatherings, greetings, social movements and/or traditions. Personal experiences could include a trip that you took or an event that you attend on grounds or in Charlottesville. The “A leer” sections of the textbook may give you ideas for potential topics. Choose something that interests you and/or aligns with your field of study.

Step 2: Conduct research on your chosen topic using at least three academically sound sources (websites, journals, books, etc.).

  • Wikipedia is not allowed as a citable source.
  • English sources are permitted, however, your project must be in Spanish.

Step 3: Use your Digication ePortfolio page to create an artifact that presents what you have learned about your topic: it could be a digital brochure, podcast, advertisement, video, visual presentation, or other mode of expression; you are encouraged to be creative. Make connection to your research to your own culture. See list of digital tools on the course Digication page. Include a bibliography of your sources (at least three sources).

PowerPoint and Presi are not allowed for creation of this project. Instead, use your Digication ePortfolio, to create, organize, and explain your project. Your project, must contain at least 2 mixed-media components (pictures, embedded video, podcast recording, etc.) If you create an artefact please make sure that it is visible to be read by your peers and assessed by your professor.

Step 4: Share your investigación cultural with a small group in class.

Step 5: Write and post a brief reflection (in English). What does your topic indicate about the perspectives (meanings, attitudes, values, ideas) of the culture from which it comes? How does it compare/contrast with your own culture? Did you learn anything in your research or in your classmates’ presentations that was surprising to you?

Ideas:

You may consider investigating a particular passion or something related to your field of study to see how that is represented in the Spanish speaking world. Example, if you are interested in architecture investigate architecture in Spain, Colombia, Argentina, etc.

Culture:

  • Art
  • Film
  • Music

Feel free to consult the Student Resources WordPress page under the Be Creative tab for multi-media tools and resources.
